Safety programmes fail when they are built on advice. They work when
they are built on evidence that a specific driver can see and dispute.
1. Harsh braking and acceleration events
The device records acceleration and deceleration exceeding a set limit, counts the
events per trip, and flags the trips that stand out. One harsh brake is traffic. A
pattern of them across a month is a driving style, and occasionally a route design
problem worth fixing rather than blaming.
2. Over-speed monitoring that survives an argument
Speed violation alerts carry a timestamp, a location and a recorded speed. That
turns a conversation from "you drive too fast" into a specific, checkable claim.
Graphs alongside the tabular report show whether the behaviour is improving.
3. Driver identification
This is the step most fleets skip, and the one that makes the rest work. A Dallas
key or biometric reader means each driver scans before the journey, so events attach
to a person rather than a registration plate. Shared vehicles otherwise produce data
nobody is accountable for.
4. Fatigue and shift visibility
Working-shift records and trip logs show how long someone has actually been driving,
not how long they were rostered for. Driven hours per shift is a more honest fatigue
indicator than a schedule.
5. SOS, tow and accident reporting
When something does go wrong, the value is response speed and an accurate record.
SOS and tow alerts reach the control room immediately; accident reports reconstruct
what the vehicle was doing in the seconds before impact — which matters for both
insurance and for learning something from it.
Making it stick
The mechanism that changes behaviour is a weekly per-driver scorecard that arrives
automatically and is reviewed by someone. Alerts that only fire into a dashboard get
ignored within a month. Schedule the report, name the recipient, and keep the metric
count small enough that drivers can remember what they are being measured on.
